Під час засідання країни-члени хвилиною мовчання вшанували пам’ять покійного Гендиректора МАГАТЕ Юкія Амано, звістка про смерть якого була оприлюднена Секретаріатом МАГАТЕ в понеділок, 22 липня.

Головним підсумком засідання стало призначення тимчасово виконуючого обов’язки Генерального директора МАГАТЕ, яким став Корнел Феруце – керівник офісу Ю.Амано.

Остаточне рішення щодо початку процедури відбору кандидатів на посаду Гендиректора МАГАТЕ Радою керуючих буде прийняте в ході додаткової сесії на наступному тижні.

 

Виступ представника України в рамках позачергової сесії РК МАГАТЕ додається:

The delegation of Ukraine aligns itself with the statement delivered by the delegation of Finland on behalf of the EU.

In my national capacity, I would like to deliver a message by Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine HE Mr Pavlo Klimkin.

I quote:

“On behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine I convey my deepest condolences to the IAEA Secretariat on the passing away of Director General Yukiya Amano.

H.E. Mr. Yukiya Amano was a visionary leader and an outstanding diplomat. His wisdom and unwavering commitment to multilateralism contributed to maintenance of stability in modern nuclear order.

Even in the most challenging times of his tenure, H.E. Mr. Yukiya Amano managed to find a right balance among Member States in promoting peaceful uses of nuclear energy, thus contributing to the international community’s efforts to reach global Sustainable Development Goals.

We commend in particular his firm and principled position regarding the Agency’s safeguards implementation in Ukraine, ensuring compliance of the IAEA platform with the relevant UN GA resolutions on Crimea.”

We believe that the memory of H.E. Mr. Yukiya Amano will forever remain in our hearts as well as his prominent job will further be effectively implemented, especially within a number of the IAEA activities around the world.”
