У своєму виступі делегація України засудила проведення шостого ядерного випробування і вкотре закликала КНДР повернутися до конструктивного діалогу з міжнародним співтовариством, негайно відмовитися від будь-яких заборонених видів діяльності і забезпечити повне дотримання резолюцій Ради Безпеки ООН.

Ms Chairperson,

At the outset, we would like to thank the PTS for promptly conducting technical briefing on Sunday, 3 September 2017.

We note that the CTBT verification regime continues to demonstrate very timely and precise detection of nuclear tests conducted by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.

Ukraine’s primary seismic station PS 45 of the International Monitoring System has also contributed to the process of detection of the unusual seismic event in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea on 3 September 2017.

The technical data registered by the Ukrainian seismic station PS 45 was immediately transferred directly to the International Data Center for the comprehensive analysis and evaluation.

 

Ms Chairperson,

Ukraine resolutely condemns the continuous irresponsible actions of Pyongyang that have already seriously aggravated the security situation on the Korean Peninsula and beyond.

Nuclear weapons test explosions represent a threat to international peace and security and undermine the non-proliferation regime. The sixth nuclear explosive test conducted by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea on September 3, 2017 is a blatant violation of its international obligations, including under relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

Ukraine calls upon the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea leadership to immediately stop their provocative actions and seriously engage in dialog with the international community to fully implement the relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

Unless the provisions of resolutions are implemented the UN Security Council sanctions regime should be expanded and strengthened.
