The 60th session of the IAEA General Conference commenced its week-long work on September 26, 2016 in Vienna. 171 Member States participate in the General Conference, 35 delegations are represented at the Ministerial level.
During the plenary sessions participants will discuss a wide range of issues related to the development and use of nuclear technologies for peaceful purposes and sustainable development, strengthening the regime of nuclear safety and nuclear security as well as radioactive waste management. Traditionally, particular attention will be paid to the technical cooperation, increasing the efficiency of Agency’s safeguards applications as a key measure in preventing the spread of nuclear weapons. The IAEA Scientific Forum 2016 Nuclear Technology for the Sustainable Developments Goals will be held in the framework of the 60th General Conference.
The Delegation of Ukraine to the 60th IAEA General Conference is headed by the Chairperson of the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine Mr. Sergiy Bozhko and consists of officials from the Administration of the President of Ukraine, Ministry of Fuel and Coal Industry, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, State Agency for Exclusion Zone Management and the National Nuclear Energy Generating Company Energoatom.
In his statement, the Head of Ukrainian Delegation emphasized Ukraine’s adherence to the objectives of the Treaty on Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons and informed on fulfillment by our State of its obligations in accordance with the Ukraine’s Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement and Additional Protocol.
Mr.Bozhko emphasized that the Annual Report for 2015, prepared by the Agency and approved by the Board of Governors in June 2016, is consistent with international law and the UN General Assembly Resolution “Territorial Integrity of Ukraine”.
