Delivered by Ambassador Ihor Prokopchuk, Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the International Organizations in Vienna at the meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council on 16 July 2015
Mr. Chairman,
Tomorrow will mark one year since the crash of the Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 that was shot down in the sky over eastern Ukraine. Ukraine shares the grief of families and friends of victims of the tragic crash. The anniversary of this terrible tragedy reminds of the need to take a concerted and effective effort to ensure that those responsible for this terrorist act are brought to justice.
We commend the efforts of the Netherlands in conducting a full, thorough and independent investigation. Last year the OSCE Permanent Council and the UN Security Council supported the calls for such investigation.
We consider an international criminal tribunal, reflecting the highest international standards, would be the best means of ensuring justice for the victims and their loved ones. We look forward to support of this initiative by the UN Security Council members.
Thank you, Mr. Chairman.
