The OSCE PA Winter meeting has been opened today on 13 February in Vienna. Over the next two days, representatives of the national parliaments of the OSCE participating States will be discussing pertinent issues across the OSCE dimensions of security – politico-military, economic and environmental and human.
The opening session of the Winter Meeting will be addressed by OSCE PA President Ranko Krivokapic, President of the National Council (lower house of the Parliament) of Austria and Speaker of the House of People (lower house) of the Parliament of Afghanistan Abdul Raouf Ibrahim as a special guest.
Among key issues to be addressed by the Assembly are the parliamentary control of armed and security forces, water management in the OSCE region and rule of law in the OSCE area. Besides, the Assembly will arrange special debates on “The Rise of Extremism, Radicalism and Xenophobia: Challenges for the OSCE Region” and „The current situation in Ukraine”.
Delegation of the Ukrainian Parliament, headed by Oleh Zarybinskyi, Party of Regions MP, is taking part at the Winter Meeting. The delegation is made up of 7 MPs, representing the parliamentary factions of the Party of regions, Batkivshchyna, UDAR and the Communist Party. Members of the delegation are to take part at the Assembly’s plenary sessions, special debates as well as at the meetings of three General Committees. The delegation’s schedule also includes a meeting with the OSCE PA President.
