On 30 September Permanent Representative of Ukraine Ihor Prokopchuk met with new Director General of United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Li Yong.
I.Prokopchuk congratulated Li Yong on his appointment and pledged the Ukraine’s support to the UNIDO activity to promote sustainable industrial development. The parties discussed the current state of cooperation between Ukraine and UNIDO, paying particular attention to the implementation of the projects in the fields of energy efficiency and renewable energy, cleaner production, development of auto clusters and upgrading energy management standards.
I.Prokopchuk stressed that Ukraine highly appreciates the contribution of UNIDO to the formation of the new approaches to the development of an effective industrial policy. He expressed confidence that the projects implemented in Ukraine with the support of UNIDO, would help to implement more productive model of industrial development for Ukraine as well as to increase the competitiveness of Ukrainian industry sector.
The ways and prospects of further cooperation were also discussed, in particular, providing UNIDO technical assistance for implementation of the technology foresight project on green industrial growth in Ukraine, development of market for sustainable production and use of biofuels and development of auto clusters.
Mr. Li Yong shared his vision of the priorities of the UNIDO activities, paying special attention to the preparation to the 15th session of the General Conference, to be held in December in Lima (Peru). The UNIDO Director General highly assessed the level of cooperation between Ukraine and UNIDO and confirmed readiness to provide Ukraine with UNIDO’s support on its way toward the modernization and sustainable development.
